Márcia Lopes

Márcia Lopes is a pharmacy assistant at Farmácia Rosa.

She joined Correia Rosa pharmacies in January 2024 and, in a short space of time, has already shown us just how dedicated she is to this profession.

“Hello, my name is Márcia Lopes and I was born in Coimbra in May 1988.
I moved to the West in 2010 and fell in love with this region. It’s so lovely to live between the mountains and the sea.
I really enjoyed my hospital placement, but it was whilst working in a community pharmacy that I realised we can make a difference to people’s lives.
In my spare time, I love travelling, both within and outside Portugal.
I enjoy cooking, coming up with new ideas and trying out new dishes.
I love organising surprises and having the whole family together.’

Has any experience in a pharmacy setting helped you become a better professional?

During my first year on the job, whilst seeing a patient, I noticed that she looked very downcast, with a very sad expression, and I became concerned. However, as I didn’t know her, I simply asked if she’d like to come and have her blood pressure checked. Once in the consultation room, she began to open up, saying that she felt very lonely, that she was getting on in years, and that she had no family nearby. I felt that after our conversation she left with a different expression on her face. The following week she came to thank me, as the week before she had been so sad that she’d thought about doing something ‘silly’, as she put it herself. It made me realise the importance of being attentive and empathetic in our day-to-day lives.

Has there been an experience in your life that has left a lasting impression on you?

Being a mother.
