Sofia Crisóstomo is a pharmacy technician and you can find her at the Rosa pharmacy.
‘Hello, I’m Sofia Crisóstomo, originally from Alcobaça. I’m the daughter of farmers who grow the iconic Alcobaça apple – a heritage that taught me from an early age the value of hard work, dedication and pride in my roots.’
I have a degree in Pharmacy and a master’s degree in Health Services Management. Ever since I was a child, the healthcare sector has always fascinated me. The desire to care for people, to be close to them and to make a difference in each of their lives led me to choose a career in pharmacy – a choice that brings me fulfilment every day.
I have been working in a community pharmacy since 2020, where I realised that customer service, whilst essential, was not enough for me to feel fully fulfilled. The experience in organisation and team management that I have gained over the years, particularly working alongside my parents, sparked my interest in management, culminating in me completing a master’s degree in Lisbon.
At Correia Rosa Pharmacies, I have found the perfect balance between pharmacy practice and service management. Here, I am able to apply my knowledge in a holistic way, helping to provide a more efficient, people-centred healthcare service that is close to the community.
Outside of work, I love simple, genuine moments: spending time with family and friends, especially by the sea, and enjoying cosy afternoons with my dog on rainy days.”

Preventing illness or treating it once it has occurred?
Prevention, of course – that’s the only way we can increase the likelihood of not having to treat the illness.
Football or surfing?
Surfing, but I’ve never tried it
If you could solve one problem in the world, which would you choose and why?
Social inequalities. It’s an issue that really upsets me, and I try to tackle it whenever possible by helping the community around me.
A song that inspires you?
Trevo, Ana Vitória.
A book that has had a lasting impact on you?
I don’t have any specific book in mind, but I like books on self-awareness.
Has any experience in a pharmacy setting helped make you a better professional?
Whilst serving a regular customer, I noticed that she was drawing out her words a lot and seemed a bit odd. I insisted on taking her blood pressure, and that’s when we realised her readings were much higher than expected. We called the emergency services, and that very same day she had an emergency pacemaker fitted. A few days later, she came to the pharmacy to thank me, and to this day she says I saved her life.
This experience showed me once again the impact we can have on the society around us and how wonderful it is to be able to help as much as possible!

Has there been an experience in your life that has left a lasting impression on you?
The loss of two very close family members. It came as a complete surprise and turned the whole family’s daily life upside down. It was a truly difficult time, which still has an impact on our lives as a family to this day.
That experience made me realise that we are much stronger and more capable than we often think.
