Mónica Herdeiro

Mónica Herdeiro is a pharmacy assistant at Farmácias Caldense and Rosa.

“My name is Mónica Herdeiro, I am 32 years old, I was born and brought up in a parish in Cadaval, and I currently live in Vidais, Caldas da Rainha.

I completed my 12th year through an equivalency course specialising in Marketing and Advertising, but I felt that it didn’t fulfil me.
Unable to continue my studies due to my mother’s financial situation, I found myself having to look for my first job.
As I’m not one to give up easily, and there weren’t many opportunities in the West at the time, I managed to find a part-time job in Lisbon in the hospitality sector
And so off I went, at the age of 19, to discover my independence, always with the desire to go back to studying.
I managed to string together a few part-time jobs, but they didn’t leave me enough time for my studies.
Years have gone by; I’ve grown through my mistakes and learnt from them. I’ve gained a wealth of professional experience because I’ve never been afraid of hard work.
In 2019 I met my partner, and that was when I felt the desire to broaden my knowledge once again.
Having gone from a course that was of little value to one that was much more comprehensive, I am now a professional who feels a desire and an interest in learning more so that I can continue to develop in this still-short career.”

If you could solve one problem in the world, which one would you choose and why?

One problem I would very much like to solve is the lack of access to housing and basic necessities. Every human being should have a roof over their head and be able to eat their meals with dignity.

Is there a book that has had a lasting impact on you?

‘The Words I’ll Never Say to You’ – that was the book that sparked my interest in reading

A song that inspires you?

It depends a bit on the day and the time of year, so I’d say I like themed music.

Has any experience in a pharmacy setting helped you become a better professional?

My professional experience in this field is not yet extensive, but I feel I am heading to the right pharmacy, where I can develop both professionally and personally, as I so aspire to do. What made me feel like a better professional was my organisational skills: I was able to prepare medication for two new institutions without compromising production at the others, whilst meeting all delivery deadlines.

Has there been an experience in your life that has left a lasting impression on you?

An experience in my life that has left a lasting impression on me was the birth of my daughter right in the middle of the pandemic. It was a unique and magical experience that is indescribable.
